Transforming minimalist desk lamp

Christmas present

December 2015

2 weeks

Munich, Germany

Item 3 of my DIY Christmas present project is a transforming box lamp that appears as a plain wooden box that illuminates through the grain of the wood veneer when turned on and later transforms into a delicately balanced geometric form.

This Lamp was made using one of my remaining Seoul Semiconductor Acrich 2 LEDs that is embedded into the timber with an aluminium heat sink to allow for the thin profile. The overhang required a weight at the base to keep it secure.

As this was a Christmas present I feel it can still be developed further. I am happy with the transformation in terms of shape but also when turned on to illumination of the veneer wood grain.
